    Somewhere in 2009/2010, I can't really remember now I bought the 21inch iMac. It was working perfectly fine up until January 2011 where it started lagging, it became very slow and eventually it kept freezing...

    It is now completely unworkable, it originally has the Mac OSX Leopard system and I cannot at all use it. When it is powered on it stays on the apple screen for like 10+/- minutes. After a while the background shows up but nothing on screen and it sits there frozen. When the power button is pressed once, the screen turns off, when the power button is pressed again, screen comes back on with everything already loaded, you can see the dock, and startup programs but everything is completely frozen, I can move the mouse but apart from that it's all dead (even the keyboard). After like 10/20 +- minutes it unfreezes and the computer is usable... the problem is that it keeps freezing every now and then...

    While it unfroze, I managed to use a tool called Yasu to clean it up, I also checked the hard drive (1TB one) and everything was said to be in normal conditon.

    Rebooted the mac, and the same thing happens all over again...

    I tried running the install disc that originally came with the iMac but it does not want to boot. I tried booting in safe mode, it takes ages to boot up and when it does, it freezes on the login screen. I used the applications CD where you have to hold D, this booted up, I checked the system and everything was completely fine.

    I then tried booting up (holding C) from a Windows Live CD, and it booted up perfectly fine, did a disk check, all was stated as working.

    I then tried booting from the install disc and it just won't boot. It freezes up and I have to wait like 10 to 20 minutes to take out the CD because it won't come out.

    Before I take it to Apple (#!$"# piece of crap) I would like to see if there's anything else I can do?

    Since other CD's are booting up perfectly fine, I was thinking of installing Ubuntu Linux and maybe then trying to reinstall Mac OSX using the original CD?

    Any help? Please!!!!!!!!!!!! and thank you in advance.

    Simple, play dumb. Claim it was there when you got it.

    And that's exactly what's wrong with society these days.

    Man or woman up and take responsibility for YOUR screw up.

    I've been a window's user for years and one day I was shopping at Fashion Valley Mall here in San Diego and I stop by the Apple store to check out what thay have to offer and I play around with a Mac Mini using the Mac Osx Tiger software and just love it, so right then and there I bought a Mac Mini computer that day, and that was five months ago and know i'm ready to graduate to a PowerMac G5 computer. I'm plan on buying the G5 for christmas.

    It doesn't require any hardware changes. All Broadcom WiFi chips that Apple uses already support WAPI.

    Hi,
    I have two internet connections here, one via GBit-Ethernet to my Mac Mini and a slower one connected to my WiFi router. I just bought a wireless printer, thus I need to connect the Mini to the WiFi to print.

    I think this is not explicitly specified, but which connection will be used to route to the internet? It would be unfortunate to use the WiFi, as it's about 5 times slower.

    Can I set the wired connection to be default for all connections, and route only the traffic that really has to go into the WiFi? All that comes to mind at the moment is removing the gateway/router address.

    Better ideas?

    I took a look at the plist files, but couldn't find anything other than the icons that show up at the top in the middle. They're the ones with color. I did find one thing interesting, however - in the Resources folder are icons for Drop Box, as shown in the attachment. Maybe this indicates Apple purchasing Drop Box for integration into Lion. We'll have to see if this remains until the final, consumer, release.

    Yeah that's the folder, and I didn't even notice the "Dropbox" icons lol. Very interesting.

    I replaced a lot of those icons and sidebar icons from a frameworks-resource file with colored versions, haven't rebooted yet but I'm curious if it'll take. I replaced the iTunes sidebar icons with the .rsrc file, it'd be nice to have the same fix for Finder and Mail.

    Problem is the fans on this model are on the base, try keeping it off the floor

    This happens on my MBP too with little else running. Skype really is probably the problem.

    can someone develop an application for OSX Snow Leopard/Lion, that works, that can backup a Windows 7 Boot Camp partition, and then restore it? i would pay $50+ for an application that can do this successfully. why hasn't anyone developed anything yet?

    i've already tried Winclone to no avail...all i get is errors when i try to restore. i guess Winclone hasn't been updated in a while and isn't supported by Snow Leopard.

    From the quotes in the article, it sounds more like the Samsung spokesperson was answering a direct question. At the very least, there's nothing in the quoted text to suggest anyone "throwing down the gauntlet". I suggest that incorrect metaphors are saved for sports coverage from now on. Now how do I contact the International Business Times?

    i'm in search of three ipod shuffles and i need them as cheap as possible. iirc, the apple store for education is selling refurbs (which are okay, as long as they're apple recertifieds) for 79 each. if anyone can find something for 69 (or less!) please let me know. i need them as giveaways for a program at my school.

    thanks...i appreciate it.

    some principal you are least you could do would be giving the kids a new ipod shuffle you sound like my principal :eek:

    Thanks guys I got it working based on the suggestions. I just have a learning curve to go through after being with a PC all of my life. Luckly I'm not having too many issues.

    On another note, anyone have a good idea for a travel bag that will carry a 13" mac book pro with charger, Iphone and Ipad 2. Any suggestions or experiences will be help full.

    The only other issue would be MS office for mac as I'm having a hard time getting the exchange server to work but I think that is on my side not apple or the computer.

    Thanks again.

    thanks again :)

    The 6970 card is 2 years old, since it can handle current games fairly decently, it will definitely not in 4 years (it would make it a 4 year old card).

    The 6970 came out this year.

    @OP: Yes it will handle decent gaming for about that time, but expect that you may have to play future games at slightly lower setting over the time.

    You shouldn't add an extra release. Is this what you have?
    Yes

    @synthesize mapView;

    - (void)dealloc
    {
    //NSLog(@"Retain cont address=%d geoLoc=%d workingPropertyString=%d mapView=%d",[address retainCount],[geoLoc retainCount],[workingPropertyString retainCount],[mapView retainCount]);
    [updateData release];
    [updateConnection release];

    [address release];
    [geoLoc release];
    [workingPropertyString release];
    [mapView release];

    It's going to be interesting to see how this slows down the App approval process. "After a highly publicized dispute, Steve Jobs had to review the App himself and he said 'huh??? what??? it's not even in english!'"

    I have a feeling this is going to open up a lot of loopholes and backdoors for foreign developers.

    Another vote here for the Seagate Barracuda if you're looking for a high-capacity drive. I've always found them to be very quiet and reliable.

    If the extra storage isn't critical and you fancy a performance boost, pick up a 10,000 rpm 74GB Western Digital Raptor.

    most schools won't let you set up your own wireless network. it's usually in the IT user agreement.

    Sure, but he's going to set one up.

    God knows plenty of people in the dorms here have wireless routers.

    Now to address the question, you can certainly put a password on the network (using airport admin utility I believe). In addition you can make it so only specific computers may connect to your network, and so your network is hidden.

    I'll be heading to disneyworld in a few weeks with the family. In times past I'd not think twice about taking my Nikon D70s, but this year I'm kind of second guessing that.

    For one thing, unlike prior years, my girls are now of an age that they'll not need or use a carriage, so they'll be walking around. Why does this matter? Well, I'd hang my camera and other stuff I take on the stroller. This time no stroller means everything I take I must lug and it gets hot in florida.

    Second reason is that while it takes great shots I gets in the way often enough. on rides, or walking around.

    So I'm thinking of taking a point and shoot camera. I have a panasonic DMTZ-5 which takes decent photos. What's the advice of my fellow MR inmates :)

    I'm also open to a new point and shoot camera if it shoots in RAW or approaches the performance of a DSLR (speed and image quality)

    Any advise and/or suggestions?

    by the way if I take my D70s, I'll be using the 18-70mm kit lens which makes life a little easier. I have my everyday 28-70mm lens but that baby is a tank, and is heavy. The kit lens reduces the weight and bulk.

    I wish someone would do a native OSX build of Putty. I'm pretty surprised it hasn't been done. Doesn't seem like it would even take much effort if you have the original linux or BSD source code as a starting point.
