You don't get the real picture about performance from that average. What are the call drop numbers when people don't "hold it wrong"? Let's say they were 50 fewer on the 4. That would indicate a massively improved overall antenna design. So you'd have an antenna that holds on to calls about exactly as well on average, with the *ability to greatly exceed previous performance depending on use*. That can't be ignored.
And not all dropped calls are signal related. Some are capacity related and we have no idea how AT&T runs those numbers.

Well, if they treat their customers this way then what do they expect?
Imagine an icecream stand, selling icecream cones "revolutionarily" cylindrical in shape and everyone's icecream fell out the bottom. Then, they remedy this by going "ok, we'll give you all a small piece of paper to glue to the bottom that will sort of fix the problem."
I'm getting so tired of hearing all this whining and complaining. First off, don't complain about the iPhone 4 unless YOU ACTUALLY HAVE AN iPHONE 4! Secondly, don't complain cuz you can make your bars disappear on your iPhone 4 unless you've EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS DURING NORMAL USE. Yes i can make my phone drop bars. Yes Apple screwed up some with the design or at least by giving everyone an "X" marks the spot. And in regards to your icecream cone metaphor, the iP4 is not even close to actually being dysfunctional because of this antenna issue. It would be more like Apple selling revolutionary icecream cones that LEAKED a bit out of the bottom when you held it a certain way. And to remedy it, Apple gave out PAPER ICECREAM CONE SLEEVES (the kind you get from icecream places already.... but SOME people prefer to take it out of the sleeve while others are fine with it). And you people still manage to complain. Either put a case/bumper on it if you actually do experience problems, or return the phone and ****.

Perhaps, (but I still maintain that it's 'easier' to run 'non-Apple' software on a Mac than it is to run OS X on 'non Apple' hardware. But it's true to say that calling Apple exclusively a 'hardware' or 'software' company is a little short sighted, so we're in agreement there.)
It is the hardware sales that keep them afloat, and it's the software that makes the hardware more attractive.
Which is what a lot of people have been saying already :)

Apple is not a normal company. It's a one-off, niche company that do things differently from the rest of the industry. If OS X is licenced to other PC makers then part of the Mac eco-system is lost, and that will kill Apple.

Man, that is a crummy little house by Silicon Valley standards if I ever saw one. I live in the neighboring town (Portola Valley), which is essentially the same as Woodside, and hence know many homes in the area (including the one I live in). And by current standards around here, not having a private bathroom for EACH bedroom, and a LARGE closet, is pretty substandard. Also, to only have *1* walk-in in the master rather than 2 is not good. No home theater? Large gym with panoramic views? Sauna/steam room/? Sun room? Library? Detached guest suite or guest house (in-law/nanny quarters, etc.)? Swimming pool? Hot tub? This honestly doesn't look like a place where a man of his caliber would be living full-time. Of course his house in Palo Alto isn't huge, either, but at least it is charming, historic, enchanted.
He has a number of kids, so I'm not sure how they would all fit into this small space with their friends when, e.g., everyone comes home for summers, holidays, etc. Typical houses for higher level people in the Woodside area would have at least 6-7 bedrooms, a bathroom for each bedroom, plus several additional half bathrooms, and probably about 10,000 squ. ft.

My OS X Public Beta folder still sits proudly on my desk at work. 10.0 was pretty lacking and ssssssssllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww. 10.1 was a huge improvement speed-wise.
10.3 was probably the first really usable version that I no longer needed to dual boot into OS 9. Oh, and I still have my Panther Dog Tags they gave out at the Apple Store to us idiots who stood inline for hours.

Yeah, I'd like a Nano with a form facto like the Mini except thinner with all metal enclosure. The Minis are tough, the Nanos feel cheap and don't take the same beating as a Mini. Considering the Mini is HD based and the Nano is flash based I think that says something. I (personally) don't care about a video iPod, I'd much prefer a Nano with video cappability as the video would only be a time filler for me waiting for appointments, etc.
As to "It's Showtime!" I'm afraid the general Apple/Mac population may be dissapointed. I have no inside information, simply a feeling based on what has or hasn't been said in the many forums.
In terms of devices for the masses, Apples been in a lull. They need to keep pulling rabitts out of the hat to impress people and drive sales.
The iPods and iTunes are tops but eventually they've got to address the biggest iPod issue and that's battery life. It's poor even for the flashed based units.
I listen to my iPod mostly at night. Granted the sound quality is not equal, but I cab get at least 4, 8-hour nights out of one AA battery in a RIO S10, 256K (or something), but only 2 nights out of a 1 gig shuffle or 4 gig Mini.
Other manufactures, especially Sony seem to be able to get incredible battery life. I understand there are differences in bitrate and coding involved, but it doesn't seem to account for the large discrepency in battery life.

One problem I see with Apple though is once they have their successful recipe, they tend to stagnate on it. That's when the competition gets the jump, starts innovating themselves and pushes ahead.
No they don't. They just attempt to copy (often badly), then license universally and flood the market with a lot junk that includes a ton of different models at very low price points.

I think the new specs and price cuts are good. I'm so tempted in buying one 23" with a new Mac Pro..
But somehow I think that Apple will come up with a new Mac Pro (new case enclosure) with new lineup of Apple Cinema Display in Spring 2007. Does anyone agree with me?..

The video was hard to watch and saddens me more because a double minority (a black woman) should know better. The irony of this beating should be lost on no one.
You would think that; however one could argue that black Americans don't repay the goodwill done towards their causes by standing up for other minorities. In fact, you could say that they do the opposite and use other minorities as scape goats for their problems. You could say that but then everyone would just call you a racist.

why does macrumors link to the appshopper description of the app instead of the actual apple link?
Seems like a useless middle step
The practice was started when straight itunes linking was awkward, as iTunes had to be installed, and people browsing from work would get dead-ended into an "Install iTunes please". It's perhaps less useful these days since Apple now does offer a web preview without itunes installed, so it may be just as easy to link using normal links again.

Unix has it's flaws too. I certainly think that NT is reaching a certain maturity to be considered just-as-good as Unix.
