I have a passport expiry and new visa stamping conflict. My last visa stamping expired on Oct 01, 2009. And my current (Indian)passport expiration date is July 04, 2011. Also, my H1b approval is under the transfer process (so I don't have the new I-797 as yet). I'm planning to travel to India sometime in January, expecting the new H1b approval soon now.

Should i get my passport renewed here before leaving for India ? I believe you can renew one year in advance of pasport expiry date either here or in IndiaI'm worried if they will give me a new passport valid only for a year as a note on the website says "A passport is also issued for one year in cases of expiry of valid U.S. residence visa. In such cases, applicants have to apply for extension of validity as soon as valid U.S. Residence visa is approved. There is no fee for extension of validity of passport."

Since my last visa stamping has expired and I will soon have a new H1B, if i go for a new visa stamping, will I be given a visa with validity until my passport expiry ? Or, I can get my passport renewed in India and then go for the stamping? you will be given visa for the duration you are eligible for and not based on the pasport expiry date, however, when renetering your I-94 could be limited to the pasport expiry date even though visa is of longer duration. So ideally you would get pasport extended here and then go for the stampingI'm afraid I may not have enough days to squeeze in both when I visit. Or, if i get my passport renewed here, are they going to give me a new passport only valid for a year since I don't have any valid visa stamping but a valid I797? Dont understand why you would be given a one year passport?? Never heard about that but others might help out with that information

I used my AP twice via JFK. Both times sent to secondary. No questions asked, just had to wait an extra 90 minutes due to people in front of me and was given my passport with the I94 back.

so nothing to fear.
what was secondary interview like?

Moral of the story : take passport for FP, infopass, etc. all the time.

Whatever the conditions put for immigration number of people to work in USA is increasing. Yearly there is 20 to 30% increase in F1 Visa for past 3 years . And 130k H1b applications also tells the story. Still USA is topmost market for India and China. USA depends on India and China. But opposite also true(India and China dependent on USA). The change of equation unlikely for many decades. Many European countries and Gulf countries are giving temporary visa and no green card. Still huge demand for working in those countries. Immigration is USA is for mutual benefit not just for country but also for immigrants. If dollar value goes down 20 rupees then outsourced jobs will come back to USA and Indian economy also will crash. So ,for developing countries welfare USA economy should be stable


Indian economy is not depend on the dollar value !!!! wake up ..Its not the IT companys any more ..there are infrastructure ,reality and services sectors which are driving india now...our imports cost more than exports ...

Guys,

If one IV member moves from State A to B, what would be the process of transferring membership to state chapter?

Will it merely be a deleting datbase record from one state and adding it to another state? Or would it be again filling up survey to new state chapter..?

I have my I-140 waiting at NSC from May 01, 2006. On Dec. 05, 2006, I-140 processing time shows as June 01, 2006. Since, it was more than 30 days, my employer called the National Service Center number and they opened a service request and told me to wait 45 days. My lawyer says that USCIS takes 45 days at a minimum to reply, but normally it is 90 days.

Is there anyone out there, who know how to track this service requests or have any experiences with them.

Just wanted to share our 7th year H-1B extension stamping in Chennai on July 15th. Since my I-140 was approved, the I-797 petition was approved for 3 years. My family (wife and daughter) attended the interview along with me. The procedure for H-1B extension/renewal is much easier in Chennai compared to first time stampers. There is a separate counter for renewals and the interview procedure is quite simple. After the initial screening of documents, we went to a separate renewal counter which did not have any queue.

The VO just asked some questions about my nature of the job and how long I have been with my company. FYI, my company is a major reputed IT Foreign MNC. My family was not asked any questions. We did not have any PIMS delays and I got the passport couriered the very next day itself. The petition was approved a month before the stamping. Overall it is a much streamlined process for H-1B visa extensions/renewals.

Hello Core Members ,

We are seeing that some applications are being returned by USCIS mail room people , for improper fees and missing forms . This looks to be a very bit issue for people who have filed the cases , during July . Its possible that the filers may have made any mistake or this can be a mistake of Mail room People too due to huge volume of applications they have received . During Normal process every one had a fair chance of applying again with in the current month or many times even the preceding months. This is definitely not the case this time. If some case is rejected after Aug 17, they will not be able to file I 485 for Years . Can any of the core members suggest a way to contact the USCIS or DHS people and get some relief from this , and allow to re file the I 485 .

I hate the fact, we let ourselves be discussed amongst the ILLEGAL immigration pool. We are not here illegally, there is no reason we should call this "GC for sale". We are helping the govt. by not just words but with our $$$.

We are here legally , paying taxes, paying rents etc. This fee is meant to speed up processing. No other terminology should be used at IV. Let anti-immigrants talk what they want.

Please remember, at any point there are always opposing forces at work. For those anti-immigrants I have no time or energy to ponder on there xenophobic reservations.

Lets not forget, America was and continues to prosper because of hardworking and honest immigrants..
