    Hello again all,
I have started to progress in my Apple education, and I have hit the first hurdle.
I have got my hands on a Dual 1.8Ghz G5, the last owner obviously removed the HDD and the RAM and Graphics card, so I thought this should be easy enough to resolve.
New 320gb HDD, 2 partitions, partition 1 100gb partition 2 200gb, ati radeon 9800 pro mac special edition graphics card, and to start with 1gb of RAM.

I did think it would be a case of install all the bits of kit needed, start machine, load OS X and off I go.

Not the case, when I press the power button the front LED flashes, the fans come on, the hard drive sounds as if it is powering up, but I have no power or activity from the keyboard and mouse, the video card also powers up as the fans on it are running. No activity on the monitor screen.
I have done a PRAM reset by pressing the button, I have changed the battery.
All I get in simple terms is a box that power up with a flashing LED and no other activity?? I also get no BEEPS on power up!!!!!!!

What I have also done is I thought fine I used my G4 Quicksilver with a USB dock and I loaded my new OS X 10.5 Leopard onto the new hard drive, that was successful, I put it back into the G5 still no joy. Could the Logic board or the CPU's be U/S? I have also now taken the CPU's out, and I have tried using just one to see if they are U/S, it does not make a difference.
Does anyone have any advice on how to start a G5 that you have rebuilt?? I thought if I put the relevant parts together as I have done many times in the past with normal PC's, it should just be simple??

Online translators are not very accurate with translating texts. It's much better to just pay a professional to do it for you.

As for the dropdowns, you could consider replacing them with "suckerfish" dropdowns that use only HTML and CSS and a little tiny javascript for IE.

Is there any way to silence once and for all a Blu-Ray burner in Mac Pro (No disk inside). I have tried two different units, one from LG and another from HP. They sometimes began to emit annoying sound, as in old western movies (night scenes), if you know what i mean.

Is it some kind of oscillation or what?

I don't have any idea about the battery issue, but the No Service part could be indicative of the Sim card coming dislodged. I'd try pulling out the Sim tray and making sure that the card is seated properly.

Didn't the last rumor say this was supposed to happen this week? It's a nice-to-have feature, but anyone who has been holding off on an upgrade simply because the white phone wasn't available is vain or foolish.

You can call me whatever you wish, I just want my damn white iPhone 4 already :D

Still, calling people foolish for failing to purchase the latest tech product (even if it is a phone)? Life. Get it.

Added my review in the other thread.

Basically it's good, but requires a heck of a lot of space (more than move or Wii combined) and most games menu systems are pants of the launch titles I purchased.

Didn't see this posted yet, I would hate to be on the Comair plane as it gets whipped around. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision of an Airbus A-380 and a smaller plane at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway Monday night when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy, one of the nation's busiest airports.

    There were no injuries.

Both planes were being inspected Tuesday. Pilots and crew will also be interviewed.

Passenger Lawrence Grotts was on board the Air France plane.

"It really felt just like a speedbump or like hitting a pothole -- a jolt -- but it didn't feel right ... like that shouldn't be happening," he said.

The NTSB said it has requested the flight recorders and will review air traffic control tapes and what is known as ground radar data.

The double-deck Airbus A-380 had 495 passengers and 25 crew members on board, Air France said in a statement. The Comair CRJ 700 Regional Jet had 62 passengers and four crew members.

"This incident only caused material damage to the two aircraft," Air France said. The airline said it is assisting the NTSB.

Maxine Lubner, chair of the aviation department at Vaughn College, said communication could have been a problem.

"When the plane, the A-380, was on the taxiway, Alpha, it's under FAA control," she said. "The regional jet may have already been switched to the company's frequency."

Lubner said the Air France pilots should have been able to see the smaller aircraft.

The recruitment seminar is really relaxed and you will get through it as long as you be yourself, engage with the recruiters and other people there and ask plenty of questions at the end regarding the job. Don't come over too much as a hardcore Apple fanboy but talk about how much you can't put down your iPhone/iPod. During the group exercises, make sure you try and come over as a good leader but good team player at the same time - make sure that your ideas are part of the main focus but be sure to agree with ideas that you wish you though of. Otherwise, just enjoy it as it's really relaxed and you will spend most of the two and a half hours watching a presentation, videos and doing some group exercises. They get through hundreds of CV's at a time and to get the chance to be considered is a good achievement. Just out of interest, what store are you thinking of joining and what position are you after? omg, all this to work at a friggin retail store?!?! I thought you were applying for work at 1 Infinite Loop or something and "creative" meaning you were designing products... someone explain to me why would anyone want to work at a mall store?

Couldn't agree more. I don't see why you have to hate another network, is their competitor paying you off or what? If you like yours awesome, if you hate another wtf cares?

I think Verizon is great and has never let me down even when I have traveled into some pretty rural areas. I like to join in on the whole Verizon vs. AT&T battle just for fun. I can't believe people are so serious about it. Lighten up and use whatever works for you.

Hey I'm looking into buying a preferably new Macbook or Macbook Pro. I need one soon as I'm moving out for my freshman year of college. The two things I'm mainly concerned about is 500+GB, and 4GB Processor. I was wondering what might be some good places to begin looking for the right laptop.

4GB processor? Hopefully you mean ram :o

You can always look on Apples web site (http://apple.com) for new or refurb. Mac Of All Trades (http://www.macofalltrades.com/Apple_Notebooks_s/5.htm) also has a good selection of used MacBooks for fair prices.

You have to be 18 to work there.

If you want to survive, then just don't do part-time. Full time spots at Apple retail are extremely hard to come by.

This is also hard to come by in all sectors of this bad job market.. the only sector of the job market remotely doing very well is HEALTH CARE.. you will always need nurses, doctors, etc... but no one needs industrial workers or customer service.. retail is a DEAD END as far as I am concerned..

Even admin assistant jobs are on the decline. Contrary to what you hear on CORPORATE America's media news stations(THEY LIE AND BLIND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE), THE job market is not improving very much.

While running Handbrake, open the OSX Activity Monitor and look at the CPU usage meter (Command-2). Are both your processors maxed out at full? If so, then it's probably not a question of the Hard drive being too slow, as it's feeding the program with enough data to keep it running full blast.

Can't say the wait was worth it, knowing how much we knew already from leaks, but...

Did anyone (who subscribed) get an email from MacRumors notifying them the keynote was available online?

I signed up for the spoiler-free keynote link, confirmed my email address (2-3 days ago) and waited around tonight and nothing. Around 7p EST, I had my girlfriend go to the apple site and sure enough... they keynote is online. Even to this hour (10p), i still haven't received an email notification from MacRumors. Of course, I could be the only one...

[edit: looks like bwawn beat me to it, and his way of doing it is probably better unless you have Terminal-ophobia ;)]

Firstly (and obviously) make sure Classic isn't running.

Also, did you try logging in as root? If you don't have a root account, it's pretty simple to create one using NetInfo Manager (in your Applications-->Utilities folder).

If you got your Mac in 2002 or earlier, you can start up from an OS 9 CD, and I'm pretty sure you could delete the 9 system folder from there, without having to deal with OS X permissions and such.

    Good luck.

Oh my god I was literally JUST about to post a thread on the no-quit-chrome problem when I saw this thread... hope you don't mind me hijacking, but I'll just state a couple of things that happened:

~woudn't quit, so I loaded force quit from the apple logo in the corner, which wouldn't even do it on the first try, but it quit on the second force quit
~reinstalling seems to solve the problem for the first couple openings of the app but then the problem arises again
~running the new beta, but I doubt that has anything to do with it cuz I saw THIS testimony, so....

ANyway, I might just downgrade back cuz Chrome is my main browse, but maybe I'd just switch to safari... it DOES have some improvements in 10.7 :D

I had that same problem yesterday. I had to force quit and then after restarting I never had the problem again (Mostly because I use Safari 5.1 much more often.) :D
