I guess I am sorry I created all the confusion,
Yes, my original post was a joke,
yes, it was referring to "Quake I",
yes, Quake I never required video hardware,
yes, Quake I runs like a bat out of hell already on the new machines,
so the OpenGL multithreading would make Quake I run much faster, because I need to see the difference between choppy 300 fps and much smoother 375 fps.
I apologize for the humor.

Not a surprise, really. I would be quite shocked if the MacBook/MBP lines were not updated before the holiday season, so I'm sure there's some truth to this report. The question, as always, is when. I'd really like to see new models before the end of October...

Not half as sad as the machine of mediocrity that is Simon Bloody Cowell's monopoly on our christmas number ones.
So the frig what if a bunch of people want to feel like they've accomplished a small victory by bumping that rubbish off the top spot? It's harmless fun.
Frig? Really? Ok then.
It's not about the small victory and believe me, I have no particular tendency for Joe or the xfactor in general.
The bottom line is that the Christmas number one is a popularity contest. It is meant to be what record is the most popular at that time of year. In recent times, that just happens to be the xfactor winner. Big deal. The sad part is a bunch of people rallying round another (pretty poor) song just to make a point. What is the point exactly? The irony lies in the lyric to the RATM track: '...I don't do what you tell me', all the while trying to tell as many people as possible to buy the RATM track.

Do you really think the channels would be priced at $1/channel? If they ever do go a la carte, channels would likely be priced at $5/channel. That way, the cable companies won't lose any money.
The a la carte TV debate hasn't seen much action lately since the government has all sorts of other crap to worry about. But there are upsides and downsides to each side of the ALC debate.
Pros - gives control to the consumer; potentially lower cost for the consumer (dubious at best)
Cons - smaller networks wouldn't survive; most niche networks would become less focused in order to appeal to a wider demographic; diversity in program would be jeopardized.
You clearly haven't left the US much. MOST other countries offer programming ala carte, and it works fine and is almost always about a buck a channel. It basically turns into you getting a bunch of the nonsense like home shopping free with subscription of 10 channels... television in the US is so regulated, taxes, and expensive because of things like ESPN and Disney having such a dominance on the providers, this country is f'd...

I wonder why I often see signs like this in stores ...
Seems to me that I have only seen those signs at places where excessive inebreation by customers could be a problem, ie: bars, some places downtown in the bar district, etc.
Anyways, if you don't want to sell something to somebody for WHATEVER reason, no matter how ridiculous, shouldn't that be your right?

The iParent is really LOL funny.
I have watched and seen children lose the concept of consequences for their actions.
Sadly it is sometimes the school that gives the kids the idea that they can do anything. Turn in your home work 2 days late and the teacher says OK.
When I was in school they would throw it away if it was late.
It seems that Congress wants to replace working brains with mindless laws.
I hope this doesn't happen. And yes I do write my Senator and Congressman to express my concerns.

Interesting to note that a typical Christmas number 1 would sell 200-250,000 copies. So this hype has helped shift another 200,000 copies of the X-factor song. Even when they lose, they win.
I don't remember any other Christmas number 1 candidate being discount sold at 29p a copy (or whatever the equivalent cost was). Yeah, they've made money, but probably less than they made with Hallelujah last year.

Exactly! That's why the iMacs didn't get the Intel procssors until 7 months after the Mac Pros, right?Apple was in transition working from the bottom up to the pro models but now that the transition is complete I guess it will be back to the old way of doing things. I could be wrong and would love to see everything updated. You just never know with Apple because of the backroom deals they make with manufactors.

I'm upset that the compared the 11'' Air to such low end Windows boxes, I'm disappointed as I wanted to see some nice Windows ultraportables.
Seriously? A few MB's of RAM saved is worth over double the price? I'm not bashing Apple here, I love my Mac and I love OS X, but Windows 7 with an antivirus runs a hell of a lot smoother on my iMac than Snow Leopard does. When you take that into account, it pales into insignificance does running an antivirus.
Not to mention that plenty of OS X users now use an antivirus, despite there being no real need to.
Mentioning many OS X users use antivirus is useless, as anyone is in the conversation is able to decide not to run antivirus on OS X.
As for greater performance on OS X vs Windows 7 you'd need to compare software on both platforms, but since the best things on OS X don't run on Windows 7, I can't see many comparisons worth wild. (although this is personal, if you want Windows 7 software, go for it!)

So does this mean we would need an adapter for the 30pin connector to HDMI out?
Apple Digital AV Adapter - $39 (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC953ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE&mco=MTcyMTgxNTk)
A second 30-pin connector built into the AV adapter lets you charge and sync your device while its connected to your HDMI-compatible display.

I checked the update pace for Mac OS X 10.4.
29/04/2005: 10.4.0
17/05/2005: 10.4.1 (+ 18 days)
12/07/2005: 10.4.2 (+ 56 days)
31/10/2005: 10.4.3 (+ 111 days)
11/01/2006: 10.4.4 (+ 72 days)
14/02/2006: 10.4.5 (+ 34 days)
03/04/2006: 10.4.6 (+ 48 days)
27/06/2006: 10.4.7 (+ 85 days)
27/09/2006 (today) + 92 days
Soon we'll have 10.4.8, and then probably around 3 months later 10.4.9 (January?). I doubt Apple will release 10.4.10, they could but I don't think they ever did it with another OS.
I thought first that it could mean that Leopard would be early, but I don't think so (spring 2007 is March 21 - June 21).
That's better, not that it really matters... ;)

I added an addendum for the technologically impaired to the lifehacker article posted a few times on how to shut it down on the iPhone, which evidently you have to do separately if you use the app. Posted on my business' Facebook page, oh the irony! It's fairly simple to disable and render ineffective(though sadly not "shut off" per se).

I saw a story on the news recently where someone accepted a friendship request from someone they went to high school with and were friends with in high school. I guess they didn't know this person as well as they thought. They were actually being watched and monitored for the best times to break into their home. I know this an unusual circumstance but it definitely proves that you can't be too careful.

Read the chat. They say online cannot be done. You can still purchase one in store.
So in other words: It isn't banned.
Interesting. I wonder if it's just a warehouse shortage for that area or carrier struggle?

My guess is that T-Mobile wasn't able to acquire enough 2100 spectrum to go both ways. That's just a guess though, and I don't know why it's not using 1700 in both directions.
