    <observation>

I was just listening to Biscuits & Bach on iTunes, and they went to Davidson College Presbyterian services at 11:00.

    OMG.

I was dumped with guilt in the first 5 minutes. "Jesus did this for you...", "God did that for you...".

Who asked Them? Not me, not my parents, or their parents, etc.

Don't quote me on this, but I am somewhat sure the apps are backed up if you had been syncing your iPod with your computer. Can someone confirm this?

Sorry I don't have that video card in mine so I can't report replication of the problem. Sorry to hear that. Bummer.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the main culprit is the GT 7800 card. I am thinking in get rid of it or pressure Apple to upgrade for a better card.
Anyway, that's life in the computer world.

I think it's to hide how good OS X is. ;)

To be honest, this is a smart move from Microsoft. If there is one thing I cannot stand about Apple, it is the silly prices they charge. The Apple Tax is stupid.

Apple definitely has the coolness going and the "halo" affect from its iPhone and iPads but in this tough economic time. Its hard to 30% and more for a Mac and you're not getting any much different in terms of hardware (other then a glowing apple logo)

Pages is exactly what Apple wanted it to be, a Word processing application with style. Unfortunately style is more dominant than productivity, which is a shame. It can be very slow and choppy at times and clearly needs a lot of work on Apple's front. The templates are cool and you can make some great looking brochure and leaflets but for raw word processing it is poor imo.

They will do a ton of damage in those four years, so get ready. The more I read about them , the more they scare me just as much as our conservatives do.

Wow- just watched him. He's a real horse's ass. How the hell did you guys elect that fool? I'm even more concerned for you Canadians now.

Their performance on the economy has been pretty good so far (even though prior to the recession they opposed the very banking regulations that kept Canada in decent shape coming out of the crisis). At the moment the economy seems to be the #1 priority for most people, and I guess a change in government in the middle of a recovery was not what people wanted.

The conservatives campaigned on "we didn't want an election, we were in the middle of fixing the economy when the other parties decided to call an election, all we ask is for a majority government so that we can go back to work and fix the economy without these distractions". I think that resonated with a lot of people.

There's a lot more going on here than I thought at first glance. There's not only the contrast between the bright flowers and the dark background, which is what I noticed first, but there's also the contrast between the front and the back of the flowers and thirdly red and green are on opposite sides of the colour wheel. Well done JD!

I went out to make use of the first bit of sunshine I've seen for ages:

This dock means that the future iPhones will sync throught thunderbolt with macs and with usb 3.0 for pcs!!! I guess thins means macs wont come with usb 3.0, so maybe an adapter would come out sometime...

I repeat: sync to macs with thunderbolt and sync to pcs with usb 3.0!!

You right. But that's a very common theory here on these threads. I use that analogy to suggest how ridiculous that would be if Apple really did remove it to 'differentiate' the product lines.

Apple is a business, and its not only a possibility but expected to withhold features from products to help sell other products.

Your analogy is not as black and white as you portray it. Air conditioning is a feature that many many cars have. To not include it would be a deal breaker for almost every customer out there. Meanwhile lets say leather interior was a feature that was standard on another model it would make you think twice when thinking which model to buy either between that of the same brand (in this case ford) or another lets say Nissan. If you wanted to use your same analogy in this situation it would be if Apple choose to withhold a trackpad on the laptop.

Same thing here. BL KB is a feature that is not too standard on ALL laptops. Its more or less a luxury feature that differentiates itself from not only other Apple laptops but other companies laptops.

Nice translations Gammamonk and thanks. But just to nitpick a little...:D
    I believe "っオ、iPod、何聞いてる" should be "っオ、iPod、何聴いてる"
You had "What are you hearing?" rather than "What are you listening to?"
    :D

Hey, thanks. Yep, I think you're right too. Probably why I always fail my 2級.

I'm glad I read some reviews- I was about to try the contact syncing. In retrospect, that was stupid to even consider. I have a lot of value in my address book- info collected over many years. Why would I (1) send all that data to Facebook (do they keep it? do we know?) and (2) let said 3rd party app have run of the house, updating/deleting any and all of my contacts?

Like I say, I almost did it. But it would have been stupid. I *might* have been saved my MobileMe since I'm usually notified before it updates a given percentage of all my data. But still- a risk I don't want to take.

You fully, and completely misunderstand how the app works.
    Sorry for your ignorance.

FYI.. no contact info is added or deleted.

Only contact pictures are synced, and a link to the persons profile is added as a webpage link in your contacts.

    NOTHING is deleted
NOTHING is overwritten (unless you want to overwrite existing pics) - that's an option you chose.

the data is sent to facebook in order to "match" contacts by both name and email address.

What facebook does with the data... I assume nothing. you assume they share it. I suppose that topic is open for debate

Unfortunately, I doubt it will change anything regarding our domestic panicking or foreign military intrusions.

I wonder about the 'domestic panicking' actually. So much of it was fear driven and we've just killed the boogeyman, will the American people remain willing to submit to 'nudie' scanners, shoe checks, and fingernail clipper peculation.

It's not like Obama injected the name of Osama Bin Laden to justify sending drones into Libya a couple of weeks ago.

Sure, but going into Libya wasn't for the same reasons we went to Afghanistan, rather it's the reason we went into Bosnia; we're using military force to keep a dictator from killing his own people. It's a different mission with different moral arguments.

The death of the dollar/US economy, not the death of Bin Laden, will end our ongoing wars, whether those wars be abstract wars "on terror," or actual, needless invasions halfway around the world.

    There's some truth to this.

Do these companies really want people to pay for the same content twice? Surely they can't realistically expect to a get premium for viewing in the same location but just through a different medium?

Sadly, this doesn't surprise me at all.

Y has a right under your Constitution to be treated equally to anybody else. You can refuse to serve Y because Y is abusive, intimidating, shifty or unreasonable, but not simply because Y is black, gay, "Muslim-looking" or trans-gendered.

Statistically African American youth are far more likely but it would be wrong to discriminate right?

My personal benchmarking tool is SETI@home (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/).

I let it rip on my 1.25GHz G4 last night and set a record for the MacRumors team: the "Average CPU time per work unit" was a new low: 5 hr 52 min 11.2 sec.

I can see that SETI@home made use of the dual processors because my elapsed time (5 hr 10 min per unit) was less than my CPU time!

Check out the numbers at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_139691.html. My member name is (surprise surprise) "Doctor Q".
