He rich, yet he wears the same thing every day?
He's very into simplicity and minimalism, just look at the way apple products are designed. I think its a conscious choice to wear a simple black turtleneck and jeans, even though he could easily afford any clothes he wanted.

I sincerely hope not. I'd rather have anything other than a poor metal track being played continually on the radio over the festive period.
I think that's unfair, it really is a good song. I would never consider myself to enjoy 'metal' or it's ilk (except DFA1979) but that first Rage album is a work of genius. It was a proper protest record, and we don't get many of those any more.
I bought the Rage single, I already own it and I don't care if it goes to number 1 or not. What it does show is that if people club together they can totally make a change. Admittedly Christmas number 1 might not be a particularly important change, but we have to start somewhere.
Also some money has been raised for Shelter. Surely that makes it worthwhile?

But I'll take it; some have some don't.

Adobe is offering the software in Windows and Intel-Mac versions, and Adobe specifically mentions that they will not be offering a PowerPC version of the software.I guess this is a piece of software I qwon't look at for a few years. Then again there are other universal apps that do pretty much the same thing. And of course why switch programs once you have something that does what you want?
If the CS3 version of Photoshop is Intel only I guess it's another version I won't upgrade to. (I'm still running Photoshop CS.) Adobe is being rather stupid.
My Power Mac still has at least a couple of years of life left in it. All it needs is another couple of gigs of ram.

So we're on our way to a government shutdown because the Tea Party Republicans want to kill Planned Parenthood and Big Bird. How ****ing sad.
Uhm, yeah, there's also the Democrats who could've passed a new budget quite a long time ago, but were afraid of dealing with their own party.
What's pathetic is the complete lack of common sense between the two parties. They used to know how to work together in the past. Now they can't compromise because of ideological BS. It's a Lose-Lose situation, for the people at least.
It's time to throw the everyone out.

Statistically African American youth are far more likely but it would be wrong to discriminate right?Far more likely to do what? Statistically, a middle-aged white man is far more likely to be a member of the KKK than an African American youth. So what?

Heres my situation. I own a Sony DCR-SR42 HDD handycam. I have quite a few mpeg2 files saved on my old Dell laptop. They were all shot using 9M (HQ) and 16:9 Wide settings.
Recently converted to an iMac this past fall, and transferred the files to the new machine. My goal is to create a slideshow containing still photos and video clips in iMovie 09.
I purchased the mpeg2 Quicktime plug-in and downloaded MPEG Streamclip. Ive transcoded a test file into several different formats; however, they are all either squished or stretched when viewed using QT. The dimensions of the test file are listed as 720x480. Below are the results (compared to the original) using various Export options (and settings) in Streamclip.
- DV (Compression: DV25; Standard: NTSC; Aspect Ratio: 16:9; Interlaced Scaling & Reinterlace Chroma checked by default on all Exports): image slightly stretched wider than original
- Quicktime (Compression: AIC; Quality: 100%; Frame Size: 720x480 DV-NTSC): QT window opens as 4x3, and image appears squished
- Quicktime (Compression: AIC; Quality: 100%; Frame Size: 854x480 16:9): image slightly stretched wider than original (same as DV above)
- Quicktime (Compression: AIC; Quality: 100%; Frame Size: 720x480 Unscaled): QT window opens as 4x3, and image appears squished (same as QT/AIC/DV-NTSC above)
- MPEG-4 (Compression: H.264; Quality: 100%; Frame Size: 720x480 DV-NTSC): QT window opens as 4x3, and image appears squished (same as QT/AIC/DV-NTSC above)
Am I missing an Export setting? Am I doing something incorrectly? How can I convert my mpeg2 files into a format that iMovie is able to import, and retain all the original settings?
Thanks in advance for any help!

That's because there is no "L" sound in Japanese, and the "R" sound is what comes closest to the English "L" sound.
Is there something funny about that?
Yeah, because I didn't think the stereotyped Japanese pronounciation was accurate, but there it is : )

Why such a negative response? The software out there sucks... more competition means more quality. Sound design needs some major upgrades. It needs to more innovate.
There is absolutely nothing new or innovative about this software. Adobe have pulled a small portion out of a superior program, Audition, and slapped a bit of marketing chat on top to produce a half arsed application that's market is already saturated with adequate basic audio editors - Particularly on the Windows side, which lets remember, will probably make the most profit for Adobe anyway.
I'm complaining because I don't just want this small portion, I want Audition in full for OS X, as many others clearly do. If they can port the original code base for SoundBooth, then certainly can for Audition.
If it is an entirely new application.
It's not. Read above.
FWIW, I discovered today that HairerSoft is working on a pro version of Amadeus. It is only available as a beta at this point, but I have downloaded it for experimentation. Apparently, they have added multitrack support. You can learn more here: http://www.hairersoft.com/AmadeusPro/AmadeusPro.html
I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but I am hoping it works...

About Steve's wardrobe: I think the dresscode for that dinner was casual. Having dinner with the president is already exciting enough, and i bet Mr.Obama didn't want to put more stress to it by demanding 3-piece suits. It's not an offical dinner, just people having a good time, and Mr.Obama was just leveling the playingfield to make sure everybody was feeling comfortable.

Macs sales are growing at the same pace as the industry. This industry that is apparently post-PC. Basically, Microsoft are not loosing sleep over Mac sales. Microsoft are not going anywhere.
Mac sales have outpaced the market for 20 consecutive quarters. In other words, Macs have gained market share every quarter for 5 years.

still cheaper than a lot of the competition. before we went to sql 2005 we looked at Oracle. by the time you bought the add on packs it was almost $1 million for our installation. SQL was 1/4 that.
AD might be a bit expensive but the AD forests people created in Windows 2000 can be upgraded every version with minimal issues and it works out of the box. with other products you first have to spend months creating your schema, pray it doesn't break when used with other products and upgrading can be a big PITA. AD is the apple of corporate IT. you don't need a team of geeks toiling away for months to code a ldap schema, it just works out of the box
1. You aren't looking very hard if your choices became MSSQL vs OracleDB.
2. If you spend months creating your LDAP or even AD schema/map, you need to go back to your clients/customer/contractee/er and do some proper planning.
3. AD was quickly dumped by the likes of Wall Street and Cox Industries. AD is a solution, not the Apple of Corporate IT.

I've posted this before on the pic of the day thread but it is one of my favorite "contrast" shots to date.

This is a very interesting photograph. For as spooky as the dwelling looks, it has a certain inviting quality to it. It contrasts not only in color but in mood. I like it. Thanks for the explanation of the coloring; I'm surprised this was light painted!

Very nice capture. This reminds me of the lighting style used in Tron and Tron: Legacy. What might be fun is to drastically reduce your aperture / increase your f-number and do a long exposure shot of it so that it is entirely in focus. I would also center it in the frame but that could just be me.
